I always find this section challenging, sit down with me for a chat and I will quite happily ramble on with my thoughts and opinions but writing a few paragraphs about myself usually results in me staring at my monitor as my keyboard falls silent. Occasionally a few words will appear on the screen before being rearranged and then deleted as the cursor blinks at me while patiently awaiting signs of life from the other side of the glass.
Part of the issue stems from being unable to easily describe what I am in regards to the web, I’m certainly not a developer and nor would I class myself as a designer, more of a creator. By no means an expert in HTML or CSS I have enough of an understanding of both to produce sites in much the same way as my mind perceives them.
I stumbled into this field in early 2010 after some friends asked me to have a go at creating a site for them and from there on in have maintained a healthy interest and passion for creating content. For a while I used Joomla before switching my attention to WordPress in 2012, in between I have dabbled with Bootstrap, Zurb Foundation and creating sites from scratch. Going forward I plan on creating my own WordPress themes, improving on the skills I have while continuing to learn from those I respect and admire.
I tend to create on the fly, in the browser with some assistance from paint.net or Gimp on my self built Windows based computer, quite a departure from the majority of those I follow on Twitter with their Apple Macs and Photoshop. I also prefer Android as my mobile operating system of choice and currently proudly own a Nexus 4 phone and Nexus 7 tablet.
People have often referred to me as a maverick in everyday life and this was the inspiration for my domain and social media identity, combined with my love of pixels to produce Maverick Pixels which I then shortened to maverpix. Of course this is just my online persona, my real name is Perry and I currently reside in my beautiful hometown of Bournemouth after returning here from a decade of madness in North London. My other interests include movies and my lifelong love affair with Tottenham Hotspur.
So that about wraps it up, I look forward to remaining involved in this wonderful community for many years to come as we learn and evolve together, continuing to meet the needs and demands of this exciting, ever changing and marvelous technology.
